Medical nantechnology. Computer artwork of a nanoprobe in a human body. One of the ideas of nanotechnology is to develop microscopically small probes like this, and use them to target cancer cells. The probes would use antibodies to detect the cancer cells, and then use lasers to heat the cells up and destroy them.
